Corinth
corinth, or korinth, is a city in greece. in antiquity it was a city-state, on the isthmus of corinth, the narrow stretch of land that joins the peloponnesus to the mainland of greece. to the west of the isthmus lies the gulf of corinth, to the east lies the saronic gulf. corinth is about 78 kilometers (48 mi) southwest of athens. the isthmus, which was in ancient times traversed by hauling ships over the rocky ridge on sledges, is now cut by a canal.

Delos
the island of delos, isolated in the centre of the roughly circular ring of islands called the cyclades, near mykonos, is one of the most important mythological, historical and archaeological sites in greece. delos had a position as a holy sanctuary for a millennium before olympian greek mythology made it the birthplace of apollo and artemis.

Delphi
delphi is both an archaeological site and a modern town in greece on the south-western spur of mount parnassus in the valley of phocis. in greek mythology, delphi was the site of the delphic oracle, the most important oracle in the classical greek world, and a major site for the worship of the god apollo after he slew the python, a deity who lived there and protected the navel of the earth.

Olympia
olympia, a sanctuary of ancient greece in elis, is known for having been the site of the olympic games in classical times, comparable in importance to the pythian games held in delphi. both games were held every olympiad, the olympic games dating back possibly further than 776 bc. in 394 ad ( after exactly 1170 years ) emperor theodosius 1 abolished them as they were then considered reminiscent of paganism. the first olympic games were in olympia in honor of zeus.[/bockquote]
